May a pharmacy make TB-500?

This page explains US approval and the rules for pharmacies making TB-500. A doctor’s licence does not give permission to supply every substance.

A product code identifies a product in a drug directory; it does not show FDA approval.

The dated answer

Approval is absent.

In the US, FDA has not approved TB-500 for any use as of September 2026.

FDA is the US agency that reviews medicines; the letters stand for Food and Drug Administration.

Talking with a health professional does not make an offered product approved.

Decode the claim

Taking a request back is not approval.

FDA’s table lists TB-500 as “nominated but withdrawn”; the page says it was current on April 22, 2026.

A group had asked FDA to add TB-500 to a list of ingredients pharmacies may use, then took that request back.

The request was taken back, not approved by FDA.

Beside that entry, FDA still warns that the body’s defence system may react to it.

What about pharmacy compounding?

Compounding means a doctor or pharmacist prepares a medicine to meet one patient’s particular need.

As of September 2026, medicines made by compounding lack FDA approval; FDA does not check their safety, effects or quality before they reach the market.

The pharmacy question

The ingredient rules still apply.

As of September 2026, our reading of US law and FDA records is that a regular pharmacy may not make TB-500 from the raw ingredient for a patient.

The law requires an ingredient to meet one of three conditions. It must have an official quality standard, be used in an FDA-approved drug, or be on FDA’s permitted ingredient list.

TB-500 meets none of those conditions. It has no official written standard for what the ingredient is and what quality it must meet. It is not used in an FDA-approved drug and is missing from the permitted ingredient list.

For certain listed ingredients awaiting review, FDA says it plans no action against pharmacies that meet the policy’s conditions.

TB-500 is not on that temporary-policy list either.

That policy says when FDA plans to take action; it does not make an ingredient legal.

This conclusion comes from reading the law and FDA records together. FDA has not clearly said how it will handle pharmacies after a request is taken back.

Advice does not change the law.

In July 2026, FDA staff proposed leaving TB-500 off the pharmacy ingredient list.

FDA gets advice from a group called an advisory committee. FDA had published no record of that group’s TB-500 votes as of September 2026.

An advisory committee gives advice; changing the list requires a formal rule with a chance for public comment.
